Tiyese Zumu-Mwale
Country Director

Tiyese is responsible for the oversight and management of all delivery programmes in Malawi and also drives the scoping of new projects and initiatives.  Tiyese has almost 20 years of practical experience managing WASH programs in emergency, recovery and development gained from working for a number of International NGOs (including the UN) in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

Jessy Kawamba
Head of Finance

Michael Chuter
Chief Executive

Michael came to Pump Aid with a wealth of commercial and strategic experience, as well as a passion for sustainable economic development.  Prior to joining Pump Aid he worked for a number of UK charities, having previously spent more than 30 years in the European retail and consumer sectors, including time with Gillette, Spillers, Hertz, Arcadia, Evans and Episode.

Duncan Marsh
Director of Programmes

Duncan has worked in the development sector for more than 20 years in both the UK and Africa.  Among others, he has worked for Action Aid, VSO, Care International and the Black Sash Trust and brings to Pump Aid hands-on experience of what works and what doesn’t and an intense desire to achieve positive and lasting change.

Brian Pertzel
Finance Manager

Board of Trustees

The strategic direction of Pump Aid is overseen by a Board of Trustees lead by its Chairman.
 


Stefan Allesch-Taylor CBE
Chairman

Stefan is a London-based financier who has served on the boards of companies in the property, industrial, leisure, technology, retail and financial services sectors.  He is the co-founder of The Afri-CAN Café Charity, a social venture in Malawi and South Africa and is Deputy Chairman of the London Rough Sleepers Committee.   Stefan was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours and was appointed the first Professor of Entrepreneurship at King's College London in December 2016.

Megan Bingham-Walker
Trustee

Megan started her career as an investment analyst for the Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS) and went on to spend four years as a civil servant in the UK Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.  She is currently setting up a start-up technology company in London.

Ashley Lopez
Trustee

Ashley is the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs and a member of the Fast Forward 2030 Board, a forum established by UCL’s Institute for Global Prosperity, where young business leaders work to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Spencer Mahony
Trustee

From 2010 to 2016 Spencer worked at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for helping UK businesses export to the U.S. Prior to that he worked for the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and now runs a business consultancy based in New York.


Ben Nealon OBE
Trustee

Ben is an actor and has been involved in the organisation ever since 1998 when he met the three founders while filming in Zimbabwe. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Gerard Tyler
Trustee

Gerard is a Chartered Accountant and is currently Group Treasurer of Urenco Limited. For the previous seven years he was Group Treasurer at Severn Trent Water plc and, prior to that, he was a Treasury Consultant for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Dave Waller
Trustee

Dave’s initial experience of the developing world came from 13 years working for Oxfam across a range of countries and intervention programmes. More recently he has worked in London for the Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development and in Malawi for CARE Malawi, part of CARE International.
